So why, studs on a paddle, Cousin? 

Because alllllll the way back in 2002, we got sick of hearing "I don't like Paddles.   Paddles are too Stingy, for my Thuddyness."   

"Too Stingy."   "For My Thuddyness." 

The mind boggles.  

So we went to work in our shop (or rather, Kenova did -- he was the original cK'er, Making Things that cause Screams in The Night) -- and found a solution.   One that now, a LOOOT of people have copied, not generally understanding why. 

It's easy   So easy that it's silly.   Surface area.   Break up the surface area.   Impact force into the muscles (the THUD), before the wide flat area impacts onto the skin (the STING).     

So -- Torquemada Paddles.  Studs and Spikes driven into heavy hardwoods and resins that cause the beating to hit different places, different depths --- and look cool doing it.  Hardwood, to last for years and years, and so that there's no flex and no bounce back to generate wear on the Top's wrist.   Unique patterns, hand made, to leave unique and artistic bruises for bruise-loving heavy masochists.
